When there has been a lot of rain, a number of waterfalls are visible in the mountains near the town of Hanalei. These large waterfalls in the Waioli Stream valley can be seen from the signed Hanalei Valley Lookout in Princeville on the northern end of Kauai. Closer views of the waterfalls can be obtained in the town of Hanalei. The flow of these falls can vary dramatically from day to day. They can be highly visible one day and practically non-existent the next, so count yourself lucky if you are here on a day when the waterfalls are flowing.

The very tall and highly visible one that you see is Namolokama Falls, which drops an immense 2300 ft. down off Mt. Namolokama. This one has a greater drainage than the others so is more likely to be flowing in the winter and early spring months. Namolokama Falls can also be seen a bit closer after hiking about one mile or so along the Powerline Trail starting from Princeville.
