Meachen Creek Falls is one of the most spectacular waterfalls in the East Kootenay region of British Columbia, crashing 85 ft. along Meachen Creek through a narrow and steep canyon.
From the trailhead along Meachen Creek FSR, it is a very easy walk down to the waterfall viewpoint. As you walk down this trail, you will come to a junction. If you go left, you will get to the brink of the falls. Be very careful here, and watch your kids closely. You do not want to be going over this waterfall. If you go right at the junction, you will get to a viewpoint of Meachen Creek Falls. It is partially obscured by trees, but for the most part, it is a decent overlook of the waterfall. Again, be careful. The cliffs here are very steep.
For the more adventurous, it is possible to get down to the bottom of Meachen Creek Falls, and I highly recommend it. The trail continues past the waterfall viewpoint, around the cliffy section, and descends very steeply to Meachen Creek. It is quite steep, but it is do-able. Once down at the creek, you need to work your way back upstream, where you will encounter a jumble of logs and rocks that you need to scramble up and over to get up to see the falls. This is the best way to experience Meachen Creek Falls, up close and personal. Awesome!
On a final note, I have seen Meachen Creek Falls officially listed with a height of 114 ft. It is actually not nearly quite that height. I measured it as 85 ft. high, and it is definitely no higher than this.
