Wailua Falls is the wildly popular waterfall along the Hana Hwy, located just before Haleakala National Park at Kipahulu.
The turnout for Wailua Falls is located at mile marker 44.8 (0.2 miles past mile marker 45), and you can not easily miss it. Wailua Falls is about 80 ft. high, and is definitely a very nice looking waterfall. However, it is rather busy here because it is such a popular stop along the road. I would rank it a lot higher if it was more secluded and a bit harder to reach. It is possible to get up closer to the base of the falls, but it could be quite slippery. When I was here, there was a lot of mist from the falls, making it hard to get a photograph even from the roadside.
It is interesting that Wailua Falls is not on Wailua Stream, but is on Honolewa Stream. There are other waterfalls actually on Wailua Stream: Kanahuali'i Falls and Waihiumalu Falls.
