When waterfall hunting, you win some and lose some. When I first came to Stairstep Falls, I was extremely disappointed because the creek was just barely trickling (even after a week with lots of rain). I returned here in Jan. 2008 after a huge storm. All the waterfalls in the area were flowing really great, so I decided to give Stairstep Falls another chance. It was definitely much better this time, and I came away fully satisfied, though it is not a very photogenic waterfall. But Marin County waterfalls are just so finicky. You really need to hit them on the right day, or they will really disappoint you.
